Iran has a long tradition of producing a variety of delicious fruits. A number of fruits have originated in Iran, of which Persian melon and walnut are two examples. The country is blessed with a variety of favorable climatic conditions; well suited for fruit production.

The southern coast lands of the Caspian Sea, and the country provides ideal conditions for citrus production. According to the available statistics, Iran now ranks third in the world in the production of tangerine and seventh in citrus fruits.

Kiwifruit production, although a relatively new activity in this part of the world, has gained increasing importance in recent years and the Iranian kiwifruit promises to become a major export item of the agricultural sector of the country.
